Opportunities
Serving at FPYC can be the best blessing of your Summer. Consider the following ways God can employ you at Camp by clicking into each. The information here will help you help FPYC.
Camp volunteers (teachers, coaches, nurses, cooks, crafts and directors) will receive a discount.* The person volunteering is free and their family comes for 1/2 fee the week they are volunteering. If a couple both volunteer, their family is still only 1/2 price the week they are volunteering. This discount is extended to help defray some of costs of serving at camp, *especially for families that really need it. This discount applies to all sessions. Please consider coming, serving, and paying full fee as an added donation toward camp. Thanks. For more info contact: thefpyc@gmail.com
Counselors
Serving, as a counselor at a Christian youth camp is one of the most rewarding activities you will do in your lifetime. It can, however, be one of the most demanding as well. You will be expected to maintain a positive and optimistic attitude toward all phases of the camping program and to enter into all camp activities with zest and enthusiasm. By your example and teaching, young people will be led to a closer relationship with God, our Father, and Christ, our Savior.
FPYC has a goal, specifically defined in the Articles of Incorporation of the camp. The goal is to help each camper have a better understanding of what the Bible teaches, to develop a close personal relationship with the Master, and to help each one grow as Jesus grew - in wisdom, in stature, and in favor with God and man. To enable the camp to attain this goal and to give guidance to those who manage and direct the camp, the Board of Trustees has adopted a set of "Rules for Campers." These rules are intended to create a positive atmosphere for Christian activity and development. The Board of Trustees and the leadership of the camp expect to recruit and employ counselors who agree with the purpose of the camp, who will themselves abide by the rules and support the enforcement of the rules while the camp employs them. They will be expected to be positive role models for campers both at the camp and away from the camp. Please read carefully the "Rules for Campers" as well as the job description for camp counselors at FPYC. When you complete the application you will be asked to sign a statement affirming your belief in the purpose of the camp and your willingness to abide by and uphold the rules. Other details, such as pay, specific "days off" during the summer and other arrangements you may request regarding the schedule including your desire to participate in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness Canoe Trek or not will be discussed at a later time if we have not discussed them already.
A counselor is the most important person in a camping program. They, along with the director, set the tone and create the atmosphere in which the camp program will operate. It is under their leadership that campers will have the opportunity to grow closer to the Lord. We hope you will want to come and join us as we attempt to accomplish this important work. Please send your application to me at the given address. If you have further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Note: Lately we have had a large number of applicants. We are, unfortunately, unable to hire as many people as we have good candidates. If you are currently not certified as a lifeguard but could possibly have this arranged prior to the start of the summer, note this on your application. This is one area that may give a person an "edge" in the selection process, if all other factors are "equal". Camp will reimburse any fee paid for the lifeguard certification or re-certification course when a receipt is given to the treasurer. Please contact me to inquire further about this or anything else regarding counseling at FPYC.

Teachers
Along with the Counselors, our teachers are the most important component of camp. This simple fact is based on the purpose of camp and the role you fulfill. The camp aims to bring young people and families into closer relationship with God. Your role is directly involved in achieving this central goal. Thank you for your heart to serve. May God bless you.
Teachers can come with no fee and their immediate family can attend that session for ½ fee if they want to take the option. When registering please note this on your forms.
When you volunteer to teach at camp, you can expect some important support. A supply room is available with many of the essential materials: crayons, makers, pencils, different types of paper, etc. We have a photocopier and a computer/printer.
The most important thing you can bring is a flexible attitude and big heart. One may never be too sure where their classroom will be or the number of students, better to over-prepare.
If you'd like to teach at FPYC please contact - Brett Osborne (brettduluth@aol.com)

Cooks, Nurses, Crafts
Cooks - We always try to put new cooks with those experienced with cooking here at camp. We have all the recipes and notes for you to use in a cookbook here at camp, or bring your own cookbook. There is a benefit offered to cooks which is a little different than teachers, nurses, etc. As a cook, you come free, and your family camps at 1/2 fee the week you serve. If you don't have family here the week you cook, you'll receive a 1/2 fee certificate that can be used at any time or year, for anyone you want.
Nurses - We actively seek EMTs, First Responders, RNs, or LPNs although the camp does not have a specific requirement for that type of care-giver. The care protocol around here is, when someone needs it - get them to the ER, then contact the parents. There are, of course, many minor cuts, bites, and scratches that need attention. You will also oversee the distribution of prescribed meds for campers. We have a complete list of duties and expectations that will be mailed out to you when you volunteer. The same "Teacher" discount is offered if you need that assistance/incentive.
Crafts - If you're the kind of person who has an endless supply of creativity and flair for all things artistic, we've got the dream job for you. The crafts room at FPYC is stock full of potential. When you volunteer, a letter will be sent out giving you a complete picture of the materials on hand and the duties of the position. The same "Teacher" discount is offered if you need that assistance/incentive.
Please contact Julie & Randy Peaney if you are interested in serving.
Camp Helpers
So you want to be a Camp Helper... You're not alone. Oddly it's one of the most sought after positions around FPYC. Why? Who knows! You get to toil away at the beck and call of the Caretaker doing all manner of hard labor. And for what - a free week of camp. Ok, well maybe it is worth it.
So many Helper applicants have stepped forward that a set of requirements has been put in place. Here's how it works.
* First, you write a letter addressed to Julie & Randy Peaney describing why you want to be a camp helper. Let them know what week(s) you have available to serve. Get the letter in sooner rather than later as the slots are filled on a first come, first serve basis.
* When you are selected, you will be notified and given a list of things to bring: Work clothes, etc., and when to arrive.
Remember to get the letter in as soon as possible. Some write and turn in their letter at the close of the camp season for helper positions for the next year.
Good luck on becoming a Camp Helper.
