Our Core Beliefs
We believe that the Bible is God’s guide for our lives. We recognize that each person must read and interpret the Bible for themselves. The Core Beliefs of FPYC represent the collective understanding and interpretations regarding the religious beliefs of the FPYC Board on behalf of the FPYC community. These beliefs provide the basis for our mission, vision and the guiding principles for how we operate.
FPYC programs and experiences adhere to the following Core Beliefs:
There is one eternal God who exists in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God created all that exists, and He cares for and is committed to the world He has made. He is holy and exalted and lives in “unapproachable light.” Yet He also lives with the “contrite and lowly in spirit” and is “an ever-present help” in times of trouble. John 3:16; Romans 8:18-23; Isaiah 57:15; Psalm 46:1
Jesus Christ is the human incarnation of God. He lived a perfect life, died for our sins, was bodily raised from the dead, and ascended to heaven where he now sits at the right hand of the Father. Jesus is the sovereign Lord. He is coming again to judge the world and to save those who put their trust in him. He alone can rescue us from the destruction caused by sin. John 1:1, 14; Colossians 2:9; Acts 2:36; Philippians 2:6-11; Hebrews 12:2; Acts 4:12; 2 Thessalonians 1:6-10
The Holy Spirit has been sent to testify about Jesus Christ. He lives within Christians, bringing new life, holiness, and assurance of salvation. John 15:26; Galatians 4:6; Titus 3:5-6; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; Ephesians 1:13-14
The Bible is the inspired and inerrant word of God and bears witness to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The human authors who penned the various books and letters that make up the Bible were guided by the Holy Spirit to speak the words of God, so that Scripture is authoritative for our faith and conduct. 2 Timothy 3:15-16; 2 Peter 1:20-21; John 5:39-40; Luke 24:44-49
Salvation is a gift from our gracious God, accomplished through the atoning death of Jesus Christ on the cross. We receive this gift by believing in the Savior, Jesus Christ, repenting of our sins and being baptized (immersion in water) for the forgiveness of sins. Romans 6:23; Ephesians 1:7; Acts 2:38
The Church includes all those who have been saved by Christ. The Lord Jesus desires that his people be unified, that they love one another, and that they spread the good news about Jesus. John 17:20-23; 13:34-35; Matthew 28:18-20
Marriage is a gift from God. Any sexual activity outside of a marriage between one man and one woman is not in accordance with God’s design and desires for us. Genesis 2:24-25; Ephesians 5:31; 1 Corinthians 7:2-4; Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 6:16-18.
We realize that some people may be physically attracted to someone of the same sex. We make a distinction between one having such feelings and deciding to act upon them. Consistent with our Biblical beliefs. Romans 1:26-27; 1 Corinthians 6:9
Biological sex and gender at birth is God’s design for us in His image. We are created in the image of God. God created each person as male or female, and these two distinct, complementary sexes together reflect the image and nature of God. God is unchanging, and we hold firmly to our belief in the design of God’s creation of male and female, as revealed in God’s word. While we may never fully understand the complexities involved in one’s feelings or decision to identify with a gender other than their biological sex at birth, we hold firmly to God’s creation of male and female as designed at conception. Consistent with our convictions and deeply held religious values, we choose to use our facilities and programs in a manner aligned with our doctrinal beliefs, which are rooted in the Bible. This position guides our decisions regarding requests for housing, restroom facilities, and in other matters that may arise as a part of camp activities. Furthermore, these decisions will be made in alignment with the requesting person’s God-given sex at birth.
